Alumni at Google, Apple, top Silicon Valley companies

If you want a job at one of Silicon Valley’s coveted tech companies such as Google, Apple, Amazon or Facebook, a degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology might do the trick.

In fact, according to an analysis by online recruiting company HiringSolved, of the 10 universities Silicon Valley hired the most alumni from in 2016, Georgia Tech ranked sixth.

And among the 25 most wanted new-grad alumni in 2017, the Atlanta university is fourth in the nation.

The findings are part of HiringSolved’s larger study in which a team of analysts set out to identify the top skills and backgrounds of 2017’s most-wanted tech employee.

Using artificial intelligence software, researchers collected data from more than 10,000 public profiles of tech workers hired or promoted in 2016 and in the first couple months of 2017.

They also compiled a list, based on volume and all hiring levels in the past year, of the leading alma maters at the top 25 Silicon Valley companies.

Not one Ivy League university cracked the top 10. In fact, the first Ivy appearance didn’t come until No. 15 (Cornell University).

Here are the top 10 alma maters of employees at Silicon Valley’s top 25 companies:

  1. University of California, Berkeley
  2. Stanford University
  3. Carnegie Mellon University
  4. University of Southern California
  5. The University of Texas at Austin
  6. Georgia Institute of Technology
  7. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
  8. San Jose State University
  9. University of California, San Diego
  10. Arizona State University

Georgia Tech, sixth on the HiringSolved list for 2016 employees and fourth for most wanted alumni in 2017, has been globally recognized as one of the best colleges in the world and the top Georgia school offering the best return on investment. Tech alumni also make up a significant number of Google employees.

A 2016 study by data-driven salary profile database PayScale found those earning a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Tech make an average $65,800 per year in their early careers and could potentially earn $115,000 annually.
